Zgambo is one of the 50 TNM customers who won a total of K100 million in the Ufulu@50 promotion that TNM conducted in 2014 to celebrate with Malawians as the country commemorated 50 years of Independence last year.

Each of the winners was required to select a social responsibility project of choice worth K2 million, translating to K100 million.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Nkhatabay Licy Zgambo, wife to the winner, who is currently in South Africa said her husband’s choice of toilets was in response to sanitation and hygiene challenges the school faces.

“The school, like many in Malawi did not have good toilet infrastructure and most affected are girls as such they fail to excel in their studies,” she said.

Pundu Primary School head teacher Modestar Kamanga commended TNM for the facilitation of the project at the school.

“We have over 700 learners here at the school and pit latrines have been a major challenge but the coming in of TNM with these facilities will really improve sanitation and hygiene at the school hence reducing cases of diseases that come as result of poor sanitation and hygiene,” said Kamanga.

TNM Senior Corporate Service Representative Andrew Kalumbi said the handover of the toilet facilities demonstrates the company’s commitment in fulfilling its promises to customers in Nkhatabay and rest of the region.

“This is a life-changing promotion as prizes are going to worthy causes that will go a long way at community level. The current prize presentation phase demonstrates TNM’s commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility and meeting its obligations under Ufulu@50 promotion,” Kalumbi said.
