According to Amina Daudi who is deputy spokesperson for Mangochi police, the incident occurred on the night of April 25, 2018 at M'balula trading centre. The victim Alli Bandawe aged 24 of Ntagaluka Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi said he left the shop well secured before knocking off.
“Unknown criminals gained access into the shop through a hole drilled on the wall and went away with assorted items including a Telefunken TV screen, two subwoofers, two Ecco Amplifiers, Electric fan, Computer keyboard and three twitters all worth K550,000,” she explained.
Police added that the suspect was noticed by the owner who shouted for help. Members of the community mobilised themselves, apprehended Yusuf and handed him over to Police.
After a search was conducted at his house the Police found other items suspected to have been stolen including two mattresses, G4S uniform and two man-made toy guns made from wood timbers which are believed to have been used to scare people during his operations.
Meanwhile the suspect has been charged with breaking into a building and committing felony therein which is contrary to section 311 of the penal code.
“Additionally the Police wish to thank members of the general public for their support in fight against crime in the district,” she added.
