According to Sub Inspector Laban Makalani who is Kanengo police spokesperson, the man (name withheld), who resides at Mgona location in the area of TA Chitukula in Lilongwe, pleaded not guilty to charges of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace under section 181 of the penal code.
“Second grade magistrate Ezekiel Kantikana referred the case to Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Court as the gravity of the case in question is beyond his jurisdiction. The case is expected to be heard before the court at a date which will be set. The suspect is currently on remand at Maula Prison,” said Makalani.
According to Makalani, in the case the wife complained to officer at Kanengo Police Station that she suspected her husband that he intended to sell her to unknown persons. The incident occurred early this month at Mgona.
“Following the matter, the woman sought refuge at Kanengo Police Station’s Victim support unit until the man was arrested. More details into the matter are currently withheld as police are still investigating the matter,” he explained.
