Women charged for disturbing funeral ceremony

The Midima Senior Resident Magistrate court has fined two women to pay K10, 000-00 each for bringing confusion at a funeral ceremony.

According to Limbe Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Pedzesayi Zembeneko, the court heard that on 6 September, 2016, Melina Kaliati and Florence Suluti conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by disturbing the funeral ceremony at Gulani village in Blantyre.

 

“Kaliati and Suluti now convicts stopped the village headman from paying eulogy and ordered him to sit down. The following day, 7 September the duo went to demean the village headman at his home. They pleaded not guilty to the charge, Conduct likely to cause breach of peace,” said Zembeneko.

 

However, they pleaded for leniency saying they have families to support. But passing sentence Senior Resident Magistrate Benedictus Chitsakamile said their conduct added another pain to the bereaved family.

 

He further said this should be a warning to other would be offenders.
