Professor President Mutharika was speaking at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during an audience with the visiting Vice Minister of National Health and Family Planning Commission Wang Guoqiang and his delegation.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Vice Minister signed a memorandum of understanding with Malawi’s Minister of Health Dr. Peter Kumpalume.

“The partenership is going to benefit us a lot because Chinese people are very advanced and have extensive experience in the field of traditional medicine. The historic achivements they have registered in the field cannot be underestimated,” said Kumpalume.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Health says it sees a lot of opportunities in advancing traditional medicine that have proved effective, cheap and safe in treating different diseases.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Minister of Health Dr Peter Kumpalume also said the Ministry is drafting the traditional medicine policy that would, among others, foster a coordinated accreditation and registration system for traditional medicine practitioners in the country.

Meanwhile, China says it intends to bring in the country more experts to help develop the country’s traditional medicine.

“Our experts are extremely good and once they come to Malawi, we should expect a very big change,” said Wang Guoqiang.
