During the ceremony the Director General of MBC Aubrey Sumbuleta said the awards are designed to stir up productivity among the staff and appreciate those who work hard to contribute to the Corporation’s growth and mission.

In his speech, the Director General said as a God fearing country we must not only put passion and hard work in our home life but also bring that drive to work.

“As much as we know that this is work, we should also remember that God is present in our institution so we must look at our jobs as also serving God.”

Congratulating the awardees, Sumbuleta said having a high spirit of work as displayed by the winners is the reason why the Corporation is doing well to maintain and furthermore upgrade its standards.

“I would like to single out one of the employees in the Business Department Eliza Kachali Kaunda who with her persistence and effort managed to generate a multi-million Kwacha advertising deal to the Corporation, this is by no means a small thing to achieve,” said the Director General.

Sumbuleta also took pride in the recognition MBC staff is receiving nationally, citing the awards given to Frank Kandu, Patrick Simango and  Steve Liwewe Banda in the Super League awards.

Announcing the winners Director of News Geoffrey Kazembe said everyone should feel like a winner because; “We are one family working towards the same goal.”

Some of the winners included Esther Matope, Promise Malikita, Miko Mwangomba, Beatrice Slid, Siphat Msusa, Eliza Kachali Kaunda, and James Gumbwa.

The winners who were not only from Blantyre offices but also Lilongwe and Mzuzu received a certificate and cash prize for their dedication.

The next Staff Excellence awards are scheduled to be in June of this year.
