In an effort to give Blantyre City a new look; the council earmarked 161 buildings for demolishing in the cities of Limbe and Blantyre city respectively.

But with the March 2016 deadline fast approaching some property owners have been spotted demolishing the buildings on their own.

On Monday morning in Limbe, people observed one of the dilapidated structures, which used to house Blue Water Drilling Company opposite Limbe Labour offices being taken down.

According to some people working at the site, the demolition of the building, which belongs to a business-person Latif Ishmael, was in swift response to the red star campaign, as the deadline fast approaches.

Last month, some structure owners obtained a court order restraining the Blantyre City Council from implementing the red star campaign.
