Kumkuyu told MBC that he has resigned to concentrate on his personal business.
His resignation is another major resignation by a senior member since the party’s founder Joyce Banda went into self-imposed exile after losing in the May 2014 general elections.
Kumkuyu who was the first person to be appointed into cabinet after Banda came to power following President Bingu wa Mutharika death in office, said he feel he can also contribute better without necessarily being a member of any political party.
“I cannot say that i have completely stopped politics because am still young, am not joining any political party at the moment.” he said.
In a related development Leadership wrangle is refusing to die in the party with some top officials challenging the appointment of its interim leader Uladi Mussa and Kamlepo Kalua, saying procedures were flouted during their appointments.
Party’s founder Joyce Banda two weeks ago appointed Mussa as interim leader and Rumphi East Member of Parliament Kamlepo Kalua as third Vice President for the Party.

The five officials namely: Salim Bagus, Cliffer Kondowe, Bornwell Kapatuka, Daniel Kayipa and Zeleso Gomani say the appointment of the two did not follow proper procedures.
