The prayers, whose theme was “Dedicating Ourselves to God in Seeking National Peace and Prosperity”, took place at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
During the service, President Mutharika read the scripture taken from the book of 2 Chronicles 7 verses 12-14.
In his sermon Pastor Frackson Kuyama asked Malawians to rely upon God all the time if the nation is to experience development. He also called upon the country’s citizens to be united in facing the calamities that befall the nation and achievements that come out of hard work and God’s intervention.
Pastor Kuyama asked government and Malawians not to lose hope over donor funding which seems to have been attached to alien cultures. He assured the gathering that God will never abandon Malawi at any time.
Also presenting a homily, Rev. Alex Maulana of CCAP Blantyre Synod advised Malawians to refrain from sin if blessings are to shower on the nation.
The sermons were followed by an intercessory session in which prayers were offered for the commencement of a normal rainy season, violence against women and children, corruption and political inclusiveness.
Offerings realized from the service were given to Malingunde School for the Blind in Lilongwe.
Music at the service was provided by Great Angels Choir, St Patrick's Catholic Choir, Kafita Nursery Choir, Likuni District Dorcas Choir, Calvary Family Church Choir and Quadiria Women Qasweeda.
