Kamlepo got it all wrong, bent at misleading Malawians – State House

The State House has dismissed reports that the Malawi leader was extravagant in the purchase of a motor home.

This comes following an article in the Daily Times of December 31, 2015 in which the paper quoted the Member of Parliament for Rumphi East Kamlepo Kalua who accused the President of being extravagant in the purchase of a motor home.

In a statement the State House Press Office says the motor home in question was indeed purchased for MK65 million and not K150 Million as alleged by Kalua. The statement further says it was paid for in two equal installments.

The statement also states that the vehicle was bought as a new unit in July 2015 to replace the old one which was already second-hand, bought over six years ago and was having frequent breakdowns on the convoy.  It adds that the motor home is not a luxurious model because it is a small and ordinary unit in the line of motor homes.

The statement also clarified that the motor home is not a recreational vehicle, but a very essential and most functional unit of the convoy.  It states that on long trips, as well as long field functions, the President uses the motor home as a restroom. He also takes his meals in it when he is on the road during meal times.

The statement says the parliamentarian for Rumphi East and the others who attacked the President in the said article should have checked the facts before they went to the Press.

It also says the Daily Times Newspaper should have done likewise before going to print and writing the editorial in which they ignored the accurate figures given by the State House, but instead used Kamlepo's fabricated figures.

In view of this, the State House reminds legislator Kamlepo Kalua that, outside Parliament, he is equally responsible and morally bound not to mislead the public, which he has done unfortunately.

The statement therefore describes as unacceptable the tendency for Opposition politicians and others to fault the President anyhow as a political disease that must be dealt with.

It says both Opposition and Government politicians as well as all Malawians of good will genuinely want Malawi to develop and calls on all concerned Malawians to join hands with Government, to have constructive dialogue across the political divide, and to move forward for national development.

It says with patriotism, integrity and hard work, which the President repeatedly calls for, the country, shall succeed.
