He is currently in hospital at St. Johns in Mzuzu where he is responding well to medication.

Northern Region Police Publicist Maurice Chapola confirmed of the development in an interview with MBC.
Chapola said Kumwenda was shot on the back.

Kumwenda is also a Malawi Housing Corporation Board member and very active member in the DPP regional committee.
Speaking to MBC, Kumwenda said he recognised one of the thugs who shot him but he does not know why they wanted to take his life.
Meanwhile no one has been arrested in connection with the incident and there has never been a word from the party.
