Dr. Chilima spoke in the wake of reports of his being sidelined by the
President opting for Cabinet Ministers.
He however stated that contrally to the allegations, he has in the
past 18 months travelled on different assignments delegated by the
State President in Israel Zambia, USA and South Africa among other
countries.
He acknowledged that it is an expensive undertaking for him to travel
as it involves a contingent of officers and that there is need for him
to walk the talk in line with austerity measures government has
embarked on.
Chilima explained that his is a delegated office according to the
Constitution and should be respected as such and urged the public to
carry on working in developing the country.
The Vice President assured Malawians that the two continue working
together as professionals.
“We have a healthy working relationship: if I’ve got issues to raise
with the President I know where to find him and we would discuss just
like we’ve done in the past and we maintain that working relationship
based on what we agreed”
“Let’s put this matter to rest. There is no concern of concern” Assured Chilima.
He pointed out that Malawians have enough problems to be worried about
and are looking forward to a leadership that will help them in this
endeavour.
“There are 17 Million Malawians for goodness sake in this country and
they are looking forward to the leadership to provide solutions so
let’s not create unnecessary problems. Pleaded Chilima.
He pledged to continue working as is expected of him and as delegated
by the President adding that he is happy with the role of championing
Public Sector Reforms which is a challenging position
