On Thursday Banda through her spokesperson Andekuche Chanthunya said in a press statement that the former president`s trip to Malawi has been delayed due to serious security concerns following Malawi Government’s delay in providing a secure and decent house in a secure locality for her and her family.
Asked if this is true, Government spokesperson Jappie Mhango trashed the claims, saying Banda’s Family rejected the house that government allocated to her.
He said the Malawi government is currently in the process of identifying another house for the PP founding leader.
On security concerns, Mhango said the former president will be secured just like any other former president.
He said Banda`s concerns that she had gone for 17 months without salary are because some things she is supposed to fulfill personally have not been done.
“For one to start getting salary they need to be included on the government payroll and that requires one to fill in forms which cannot be filled by anybody else. She has been the Head of State and she knows that; why is she always outside of Malawi and expect somebody else to complete the required formalities that need her physical presence?” said Mhango.
Banda left the country just after the May 20, 2014 tripartite election where she became third.
Banda was not available during the incumbent`s inauguration ceremony a thing which sent tongues wagging that she was bitter.
Although its not yet known when she will come into the country many people who have been convicted and who are still going under trial in the cash gate cases have linked her name to the chief architect to the massive plunder of the public funds.
