But the news about the price adjustment has not moved most imbibers commenting on social media.

According to the brewers Carlsberg Malawi limited, imbibers will be paying K450 for a 300 ml bottle of Carlsberg Green from K400 while as a two-litre bottle of Sobo Squash is now at K1,500 from K1,200.

According to a statement, the upward adjustment has been effected due to the instability of the local currency which has affected the prices of raw materials.

“Price stability is extremely important to Carlsberg in Malawi and we are very pleased to confirm that our weighted average price increase is below consumer price index(CPI) and is expected to be below projected 2016 inflation rates,” said Carlsberg Malawi in a statement.

Some imbibers have jokingly commented to the increase saying the hike will not affect their spree budget but rather the budget of food at home as money from home will be added on to the drinking tab.

“We will adjust accordingly. Less household expenditure to maintain the current level of drinking. Simple! I have always thought Carlsberg is cheap considering the benefits we reap from drinking it. Green, kukhosi zi zi zi.”

To the wise imbiber, I say, cut household spending. Give the wife and children beans everyday then you won`t compromise the proof that the maker loves us”. said some imbibers.
