Chikwawa Police Public Relations Officer Foster Benjamin in an interview on Sunday said that the deceased had been on Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ARVs) since 2016.

"According to Feliya Luciano, an employer to late Matabwa, the deceased in 2016 sought VCT services after being unwell for some time. At the VCT, he tested HIV positive," said Benjamin.

Benjamin said since testing positive the deceased had been on ARVS until last week Wednesday when he had complained to his relatives of having opened bowels.

"And on Thursday his relations reported of his missing which made us as police and his relations to start searching his whereabouts only to found him on Saturday evening dead and hanging in a palm tree," said Benjamin.

According to Benjamin an autopsy revealed that Matabwa died of a fractured spine and suffocation.

"We found him hanging and we suspect no foul play. The deceased committed suicide," he said.

Meanwhile Police have called on those depressed in one way or the other not to resort to suicide but seek counselling and guidance from appropriate authorities.
