Chief Ngolongoliwa said this during an interface with over 300 chiefs from Mulanje on the matter on Wednesday. He met the chiefs in the headquarters of three Traditional Authorities Mabuka, Nkanda and Chikumbu.
At Chief Mabuka’s Headquarters Paramount Ngolongoliwa asked the chiefs never to shy away from their core responsibilities of leading their subjects to victory against such rumours, which he said has the potential to disintegrate the once united people of the three districts.
“Thieves and vandals are taking advantage of the rumours to steal and ransack properties of other innocent and hardworking people on suspicion that they are housing blood suckers as was the case with Chief Mabuka who fall victim to his own subjects on September 14 when they ransacked his office and house. As chiefs, we should not allow this to continue,” said Ngolongoliwa.
Paramount Chief Ngolongolowa warned his juniors that they risk being pitted against the very same people they are supposed to lead if they don’t rise to the occasion.
In her remarks Traditional Authority Chikumbu described the meetings as very crucial in as far as ending the rumours was concerned.
“Paramount Ngolongoliwa’s approach is very commendable. He has instilled confidence in us, the chiefs, and we are very hopeful that this direction will take away these rumours once and for all,” said Chief Chikumbu.
And in her remarks, Chief Nkanda said the blood sucking rumours have dire consequences as international organizations and public service providers such as health have started withdrawing their services from the three districts for fear of the attacks.
Meanwhile, Chief Ngolongoliwa is expected to hold similar meetings with traditional leaders in Chiradzulu.
