Envoy calls for MW, TZ to invest in road infrastructure to promote trade

Tanzania High Commissioner to Malawi Benadicto Mashaba says Malawi and Tanzania should invest towards road infrastructure development as one way of spurring cross boarder trade between the two countries.

“I will keep on pushing for the two countries to improve the  condition of  roads  in order to  promote trade and  smooth movement of  people  and  goods,” said Mashaba.


Mashaba said the two countries must make sure that barriers of trade are eliminated, on top working towards easing taxation burdens on traders of the two neibouring countries.


The envoy was speaking when he toured Chitipa and a Malawi-Tanzania boarder district of Ileje.


Taking his turn, Chitipa District Commissioner, Humphrey Gondwe said security agencies from Chitipa in Malawi and Ilete in Tanzania have a very good working relationship, a situation he described as vital in as far as promotion of trade in between the two districts were concerned.


Malawi and Tanzania relationship dates back to1950  and 1960 when the two countries  attained their  Independence  from the  Colonial  rulers.
