Stop focusing on the negatives - APM

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has called for mindset change among people for the country to register meaningful development. Professor Mutharika was speaking at the Bingu International Convention Centre-BICC in Lilongwe when he awarded certificates, diplomas and degrees to University of Malawi - UNIMA graduates.

Professor Mutharika who is the chancellor of UNIMA dwelt his address to the congregation on mindset change, saying Malawi can register further growth if people can change their mindset by among other things to stop focusing on the negatives only. President Mutharika called on the Malawi nation to embrace mindset change in order to transform mother Malawi.


The Malawi leader said his passion for developing Malawi is one reason his government values quality education by making higher education relevant to the country’s needs as well as regional and global needs.


On women and youth empowerment Professor Mutharika said his government has championed an inclusive approach towards appointing women into leadership positions. He also called on the private sector and nongovernmental organizations to complement his government’s efforts in uplifting the welfare of women in the country.


And speaking at the event, UNIMA’s Vice Chancellor Professor John Saka congratulated President Mutharika for his recent international accolades describing them as a true reflection of a leader with passion for education.


And for his part,  chairperson for UNIMA Board Reverend Dr. Billy Gama encouraged the new graduates to walk in the shadow of President Mutharika who has walked through the corridors of tertiary education and leadership.


Out of the 479 graduates 286 are male whilst 193 are female. And 388 have received undergraduate awards whilst 91 got postgraduate awards.
