Sweeping exercise nets six in Mzuzu

A successful day light operation was conducted on Thursday, August 17, 2017 which yielded good results and led to the arrest of six suspects in Mzuzu for allegedly committing different crimes.

According to Martin Bwanali who is Mzuzu Police Public Relations Officer, the operation was conducted in line with Crime Must Fall Campaign which aims at accomplishing the mission and vision of creating a safe and secure Mzuzu by among other things reducing crime.


“Gift Mandevu aged 22, Anaf Ajibu aged 22 and 36 year old Daniel Chirwa were arrested for allegedly operating businesses without licenses. Further searches of their business premises led to the discovery and seizure of indian hemp. The three suspects come from Chibambo Village, T/A Mtwalo in Mzimba, Ligomera Village, T/A Kambwiri in Salima and Jomo Village in T/A Kaluluma in Kasungu respectively,” said Bwanali.


Bwanali added that a 39 year old Henry Mkandawire and Mc Donald Munthali aged 28 of Sakali Village, T/A Mpherembe in Mzimba and Gwenje Village,T/A Mwankhunikira in Rumphi respectively were netted for allegedly being found in possession of liquid gas without licences. The two combined, were found with 380 litres of diesel which was later seized.


“The sixth suspect was found offering for sale a dell laptop and upon asked how he got it he failed to give an account. He was arrested for allegedly found in possession of property suspected to have been stolen. He is Felix Venga 26 years and hails from Dusimba Village in the area of traditional authority Chikumbu in Mulanje district,” he explained.


All the suspects will appear in court to answer their respective charges.
