According to one of the church elders Hudson Khauya, the congregation thought of doing this noble course because last year the church had its roof blown off by strong winds which cost it a lot of money to renovate.
He also added that the location of the church is designed in a way that it is on a steep slope and at the other side there is Bangwe River, hence the need to plant more trees to protect the river from siltation.
Commenting on the same one of the church members who took part in the exercise Esnart Zgambo emphasized the need for people to embrace the spirit of planting trees as directed by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
“We need to plant trees, it's everybody's responsibility; as such we will prepare brighter future for the next generations. Climate change is real, lets join hands to deal with it,” she said.
The church planted 200 trees and is expected to extend this exercise to other parts such as Bangwe and Maravi mountains. At least 130 members participated in the exercise.
