Two men sentenced to 6 years IHL for Burglary and Theft

Midima Magestrate Court has sentenced two men to 6 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour for Burglary and Theft.

According to Limbe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Pedzesayi Zembeneko, the two Valiwa Mitengo and Paul Kaliati broke into a house and stole a TV screen, 2 decoders, bags of maize, 2 litres of SOBO orange squash, roasted chicken and a bicycle. Zembeneko said all the stolen property is worthy K202, 500-00.


He further said the duo appeared before the Midima Senior Resident Magistrate court presided by His Worship Benedictus Chitsakamile.


“During mitigation, both Mitengo and Kaliati asked for leniency on grounds that they have families to support. However, when passing sentence His worship Chitsakamile said the two deserve stiffer punishment to deter would be offenders and create room for the convicts to reform during their custodian stay at prison,” said Zembeneko.


The two were sentenced to 6 years imprisonment with hard labour on burglary and 12 months imprisonment on theft. Both sentences to run concurrently.


Vilaliwa Mitengo hails from Waluna Village T/A Chimaliro in Thyolo district while Paul Kaliati hails from Matumbo Village, T/A Chimaliro in Thyolo.
