Public Relations Officer for Nkhunga Police Station in Nkhotakota Ignatius Esau confirmed the development saying the convict defiled the victim on the 14th of this month.
He added that the magistrate Kingsley Buleya during the ruling said young people in the country are supposed to enjoy their human rights for them to be responsible citizens.
“When the suspect was arrested, he was charged with defilement and in court, he pleaded guilty to it. During mitigation, the convict shocked the court when he voluntarily said he started sleeping with the girl in February this year. He later branded his genitals as satanic as they have landed him into the current mess,” said Esau.
Passing sentence, his worship Buleya expressed worry on the increase of defilement cases in the area. The magistrate was at pains to observe that grannies are departing from their core duty of teaching young children morals of life and protection to that of being monsters.
The convict hails from Chifuti Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota district.
Many studies have shown that defilement is traumatic and often associated with psychosocial problems in children, parental distress and significant social strain on family relationships and well-being.
The defiled children usually have negative outcomes in terms of poor academic performance, low self esteem, depression and poor social relationships. In addition some develop life threatening outcomes to the defilement trauma, such as contracting HIV/AIDS, becoming pregnant, or the use of drugs and alcohol or developing serious mental disorder and suicide attempts.
