ECAM Executive Director Beyani Munthali disclosed this in Blantyre during an update on implementation of the Pension Act-practical approaches.
“We want to keep our members well informed on any development in the pension industry. We have interacted with them and the feedback is very positive,” said Munthali adding that the voice of employers holds such meetings with its stakeholders periodically.
He added that ECAM makes sure that employers are more conversant with the laws. He further said after consulting its members the body will submit its position to Reserve Bank of Malawi on pension.
In his presentation, Retired CEO Nico Life Osman Karim said ECAM members who attended the meeting are key personnel as most of them belong to human resource departments from their different organisations and companies. Karim among others drilled participants in managing costs associated with Pensions.
He further commended the employers for organizing such meetings as it is very important for employers to fully understand pension issues.
“The participants were very keen to understand on how pension should be invested. They are almost all from Human Resource section from their respective workplaces and most of these are involved in the pension issues,” he said.
In 2011, Parliament enacted Pensions Act, and ever since many developments have happened.
