Man in custody for defilement in Dwangwa

A 39-year-old man is in custody at Dwangwa for defiling a 14-year-old girl.

According to Sub Inspector Laban Makalani station public and media liaison officer, the suspect Robert Phiri of Senzani Village, Traditional Authority Phambala, Ntcheu was arrested on Tuesday the 25th July, 2017 for allegedly defiling the girl on Monday at Nyamvuu inside Dwangwa Illovo Sugar Estate.

 

“During the day of the incident, the victim, who is a standard 2 pupil, is reported to have left home to Nyamvuu Full Primary School early in the morning. While at the school, the suspect, who resides near the school compound, is alleged to have coaxed the girl into his house by using a cellphone. The girl told the police that the man called her into the house to watch a film on the phone and in course, she got defiled,” explained Makalani.

 

Police further said the incident was discovered by one of her teachers who spoted her inside the house.

 

“Following the incident, the girl's parents reported the matter to the police station where she was referred to Nkhunga Health Center for medical examination. Medics at the health facility confirmed that the girl was defiled,” he added.

 

The suspect is expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of Defilement under section 138 of the penal code.
