APM reshuffles Cabinet, some new faces in

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Section 92 of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi has appointed a new Cabinet with effect from 16th July, 2017.

 According to the statement from Office of President and Cabinet - OPC signed by Lloyd Muhara, the new Cabinet is as follows:

 

1. His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi; Minister of Defence, Commander-In-Chief of the Malawi Defence Force and the Malawi Police Service.

 

2. Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima; Vice President of the Republic of Malawi and Minister responsible for Disaster Relief Management and Public Events.

 

3. Honourable Goodall Gondwe; Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development.

 

4. Honourable Henry Mussa – MP; Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism.

 

5. Honourable Dr Jean Kalirani – MP; Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare.

 

6. Honourable Kondwani Nankhumwa – MP; Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

 

7. Honourable Atupele A Muluzi – MP; Minister of Health and Population.

 

8. Honourable Francis Lazaro Kasaila – MP; Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development.

Besides, His Excellency the President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed Mr. Charles Mhango as Attorney General. Mhango replaces Kalekeni Kaphale whose contract expired last month.


Meanwhile analysts have commended His Excellency the President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for maintaining a lean cabinet. Speaking to MBC, Chairperson for Human Rights Consultative Committee – HRCC, Robert Mkwezalamba said the President has lived to his promises. Mkwezalamba said this will help in reducing expenditure.
