According to Nkhotakota Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Paul Malimwe identified the convict as Rashid Amin who harmed Mbaluko Simavu over misunderstandings which erupted over payments.
“It is said, Amin, a bicycle repairer worked on Mbaluko's bicycle which had developed a problem. When the convict finished repairing the bicycle he charged the victim K100 but Mbaluko fetched a K1000 note from the pocket. When the convict saw the K1000 note changed the price which did not go well with the victim,” said Malimwe.
He added that thereafter, misunderstandings erupted which ignited a fight in which Mbaluko was seriously injured.
“The state prosecutor in the case Sergeant Cosmas pleaded with the court for a stiff punishment. In mitigation, Amin pleaded court's leniency when passing the sentence as he is a bread winner to his family,” he added.
However, Magistrate Fred Juma Chilowetsa presiding over the case said family issues do not matter in court as defense and excuse.
He then ordered the convict to pay K240, 000 or go to jail for 36 months. The Magistrate also said, K2000 will be compensation to the victim.
The convict, Rashid Amin hails from Kanyenda Village in the area of Senior Chief Mwadzama in Nkhotakota district.
