Minister of Transport and Public Works Jappie Mhango told MBC that currently governments of Malawi and Mozambique are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of road users following the war that broke out in Mozambique last year.
“The situation is under control, our trucks are moving. Now there is smooth movement. The two governments have managed to put the situation under control,” said Mhango.
Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama claimed that the general elections, in which the ruling Frelimo party won an easy victory, were rigged and went into hiding in the mountains of Gorongosa.
Tension between government security forces and Renamo members intensified last year in Mozambique after Dhlakama announced plans to take power in six of the country's 11 provinces.
The roads of Mozambique were constantly monitored; people could only travel in convoys guarded by security forces of the country.
Some trucks from Malawi were burnt to ashes in Mozambique, some of them with fuel, which resulted fuel importers to lose millions of money in the process since they had to use a long route.
The conflict also forced over 11000 Mozambicans to flee into Malawi as refugees.
