Mulanje Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Gresham Ngwira said, according to the mother of the victim, Rhoda Mazinga, her daughter went missing on Tuesday June 29 only to reappear the following day.

“When asked the victim, told her mother that she was at Dziko ndi Anthu Rest House, Mathambi trading center with the said boy where he later defiled her. Upon hearing this the mother reported the issue at Mathambi Police Unit following which police officers got the suspect arrested,” explained Ngwira.

He further said currently police investigations are underway and when complete the suspect will appear in court to answer an offence of defilement of an imbecile, contrary to section 139 of the penal code.

Police are meanwhile appealing to the general public to be responsible enough by ensuring all people are given the protection they deserve.

The suspect comes from Mpaso Village in the area of Senior Chief Mabuka in Mulanje district.
