Airtel Gives 8th National School Science Fair K1.5m Boost

Airtel has sponsored K1.5m towards the 2017 National School Science Fair for the second consecutive year.

Making the presentation on Wednesday, Kondwani Mkandawire – Airtel Territory Sales Manager for Kasungu explained that as a brand that supports the youth, they were very impressed with the skills and innovative projects that participating students bring to the fair.


“Our plan as a brand is to continue to support these young students through this platform and help them reach their dreams and unleash their potential as future leaders that will help propel our economy innovatively,” Mkandawire further explained.


Receiving the support on behalf of the 2017 School Science Fair planning committee, Lion Jack Kam’mayani, who is the Fair Coordinator explained that the timely support from Airtel would cover logistical expenses for the fair participants that were coming in from across the country.


“This year will showcase a total of 34 projects. 33 of them will be from our local schools whilst the 34th from Prestige College, South Africa the winners of the 2016 South Africa National Schools Science Fair,” Kam’mayani further explained.


The National School Science Fair is in its 8th year running and will Start on Sunday 2nd July and finish on Wednesday 5th July. The fair is open to the public on Tuesday 4th July and the Minister of Education will be the Guest of Honour.  The Fair features learners from Secondary and Community Day secondary schools from various districts in Malawi who showcase their various innovative science projects around energy, health, and the environment. Rumphi Secondary School were winners of the 2016 National Science Fair where they showcased a flood detection circuit system using batteries.
