CEAR Communications and Corporate Image Manager Chisomo Mwamadi told MBC that among the fired team include drivers, assistant drivers and security team. Mwamadi further said the firing is a lesson to others to desist from malpractice.

“In the month of April alone this year, we lost over 16,000 litres of fuel which is roughly around MK12, 876, 000.00,” said Mwamadi adding that by firing these members is enough as the company will not take any action on them.

He said the fired members would stop the train at a strategic place, siphon the fuel and sell it. He further said at times the culprits would connive with communities to do the malpractice.

“As a company we are appealing to communities to help us deal with such malpractices once and for all by reporting such incidents to us as this is costing the company a lot,” he said pointing out that CEAR will stop at nothing until the malpractice is dealt with for good.

Mwamadi further said to bring the malpractice to stop, the company is installing a tracking system on its trains and CEAR will also install cameras on all trains.

“We are also monitoring train movement through our train control centre,” he added.
