Speaking with MBC Clinical Officer Titus Nkosi at the modern facility said the health centre is helping a lot of people in as far as health services are concerned. He said the facility helps more than 15 thousand people in the district.

“The facility really helps people, before the facility people could walk a very long distance to access health services at Neno district hospital. On top of that the services at the facility are free which is different with other health centres found here where patients pay something for them to access health services,” said Nkosi.

He said the health facility is serving at least 17 villages all under Traditional Authority Dambe in the district.

“The number at times rises because other people come from Mozambique and Mwanza to access health services,” he added pointing out that the health facility is not yet officially open.

Some of the facilities found at the health centre include staff houses, maternity wing just to mention a few.

The magnificent Dambe Health Centre located at a hard to reach area in Neno district has cost Partners In Health over MK270 million. The centre has about 27 health workers.

This year PIH has turned 10 years operating in Neno in partnership with Malawi Government through the Ministry of Health. During these years the organization has completely changed the face of the district in terms of infrastructure development and maintenance, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and supplies, patient transportation, among others.

Neno district where PIH operates in Malawi remains the only district without a tarmac road with dust rolling and settling on every structure at its main administrative centre, and vehicles stuck in muddy ruts during the rainy season.
