A press statement from the Malawi Government Spokesperson Kondwani Nankhumwa, who is also Minister of Information and Culture said the victim is a 24-year-old man Charles Toni from Salima.
“The Malawi government has confirmed the death of one more Malawian who was stabbed to death in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on 22nd April, 2015 and was laid to rest on 23rd April, 2015. The deceased has since been identified as Charles Toni aged 24 years and he hails from Chipole Village, Traditional Authority Maganga in Salima District,” Nankhumwa said.
He also said the government through its High Commission office in South Africa was making efforts to establish facts surrounding the death of person run over by train alleged to be a Malawian.
Meanwhile 532 Malawians are expected to arrive today by eight buses as the Government of Malawi continues to repatriate Malawians who have been affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa
The buses were initially carrying 509 returnees from Durban but when they got to Beit Bridge in South Africa they came across some 23 Malawians who were stranded there without proper travel documents. They picked them bringing the total number of the Malawian returnees to 532.
The first group of Xenophobic attacks arrived on Monday with 300 and have since been gone home.
