In a touching Tweet, European Union (EU) Ambassador to Malawi Sandra Paesen has asked Malawians a touching and food for thought question on the chilling death of Police Mobile Service Superintendent Usumani Imedi, killed by stoning by a mob at hotbed trading centre Msundwe in Lilongwe on Tuesday.

“I’m asking all Malawians today: did Police Superintendent Imedi deserve to be killed by stoning?

“As the Ambassador of the European Union in Malawi, I say no to violence from police to citizens, from citizens to police.

“I say no to violence1,” she said in the tweet, signed @EUinMalawi.

Imedi was killed in this brutal way by young militants allegedly aligned to MCP when he led a contingent of riot police to quell violent protests around Msundwe trading centre, 35 kilometers from Lilongwe on the Mchinji-Lilongwe highway.

The youths were blocking DPP supporters from travelling to Lilongwe city to attend the ground breaking ceremony of the launch of 250 secondary schools by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
