US Embassy public affairs officer Douglas Johnston told local media the total $264.4 million freeze for the world for 2018 affects multiple spending categories which include development assistance.

The Malawi figure is lower than the K11.7 billion ($15.8 million) projected for 2019.

The American government spends its aid through USAid, which is currently, among numerous programs in health, agriculture and general social development and sustainable livelihoods, spending K8.9 billion ($12 million) in dealing with cervical cancer in Malawi and Zambia.
