The Malawi leader was speaking on Friday when he presided over the Youth Innovation Awards and Fundraising Dinner in Lilongwe.

President Mutharika said, “Let me promise that I will always be there to support you. As long as I am your President, I will do everything I can to make sure that you have a future that is safe.

Professor Mutharika who is also a Global Champion for Youth, and African Youth said it is his responsibility to fight the challenges that cause suffering for the Youth and all Malawians.

“I fight poverty! I fight hunger! I fight unemployment and I fight disease. These are the real four enemies of this country. These are my enemies. For you the Youth, my job is to create opportunities for employment and businesses in order to reduce poverty and suffering among the Youth as well as among all Malawians,” said the Malawi leader.

President Mutharika told the youth not to be dissuaded by empty promises some opposition political leaders are touting about as the country nears elections stating that some politicians will promise you what they will do if they go into government, and that is if ever they make it. But I tell you what we are doing already.

Professor Mutharika cited improvement of the economy which has seen the inflation going down to a single digit; creating of a digital generation to give Malawi fast, affordable and accessible internet on smart phones and everywhere; construction of community technical colleges to create a skilled Youth for Malawi; provision of loans to the Youth in order to empower them to create their own businesses after getting skills; and construction of 250 more secondary schools in every part of Malawi after which, on average, every district will get 7 more secondary schools just to mention a few of the DPP led government programs.

On sports President Mutharika said his administration is providing more sports opportunities to the Youth since sporting activities improve their physical wellbeing.

“And we all love sports. We are building stadiums in every district, and for big football clubs such as Nyasa Bullets and [Be Forward] Wanderers. I promise to build a Football Academy and a Netball Academy so that we make Malawi a country that produces the best footballers and netballers for Europe and the rest of the world,” said Professor Mutharika.

The Malawi leader urged the nation to choose to create more Youth Opportunities and to improve the quality of people’s lives so as to make Malawi a better place.
