The President was speaking at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre on Wednesday when he hosted DPP youth to a luncheon.

The youth, who came from all the districts in the Southern and Eastern regions, also seized the moment to endorse President Mutharika as the DPP torch-bearer in 2019.

“Like I said on my return from London, I am contesting as your presidential candidate in 2019. Others are against this because they said I never gave them tenders or business opportunities – in my view, in a government system that is working, a head of state should not be dictating on who should be getting contracts or business opportunities- that would be corruption,” said President Mutharika.

The President further reiterated his commitment to initiate policies that target young people in the country.

He said as a global champion of youth empowerment he will continue implementing programs aimed at uplifting lives of young people such as the construction of community technical colleges and implementing the jobs for youth program that will create 17 thousand jobs for the youth.

However, the President advised the youth to refrain from engaging themselves in violent activities as the country gears up to the polls next year.

Speaking at the function, Blue League Chairperson Dumisani Lindani said the DPP youth wing fully supports President Mutharika’s presidential candidature.

He said President Mutharika has not only entrusted young people in various leadership positions, but has also initiated policies that directly target the youth.

“This is evidence enough that the President has not discriminated against anyone based on age. It is therefore unMalawian for us to thank him by discriminating him based on his age. As Blue League, we are fully supporting your candidature,” said Lindani.

About 2000 DPP youth attended the luncheon.
