Speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe, Phiri says there will be no camps in the DPP and that the status will remain so until the 2019 general elections where the party is confident of winning with a landslide.

Phiri said DPP is a democratic party, believes in a constitution, that will guide the party on the 2019 presidential candidate through the national convention.

He, however, said being a democratic party every member is free to express his or her opinion in light with Madame Callista Mutharika’s statement opting for the Vice President to represent DPP in the 2019 elections.

“There is not even a single camp other than that of the President and the Vice President. We have one camp and one agenda which is carried out by Professor Mutharika and Vice President Chilima,” said Phiri.

Speaking in his own capacity, Phiri endorsed President Prof Mutharika as the DPP presidential candidate and Dr Chilima as running mate during the 2019 tripartite elections if the convention decides so saying the pair has done so well in developing the nation; a thing he says gives the party confidence for a landslide victory come 2019.

“We are a party that promises and delivers. Malawians are not looking at mere rhetoric’s; they are looking at delivery on the ground and from Nsanje to Chitipa, they are assured that we have delivered beyond their expectations and are ready to vote for us,” said Phiri.

He then applauded the leadership style of President Professor Mutharika in grooming up youths to become leaders as evidenced through his trust in putting the youth into decision making positions.
