Speaking during the visit to the affected families, DPP Regional Governor for the North Kenneth Sanga observed that the calamity is disturbing not only to the affected families but also distressing to the entire community.
Sanga then hailed President Professor Arthur Peter Mtharika for advising the party officials to visit the affected households.
“Let me thank very sincerely His Excellency the State President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika who is also the president of DPP after hearing about this accident here in Mzuzu, he told us to visit the affected families. So we have come with some kind of relief (cash) to keep life going. We are very thankful to the President and entire DPP for showing kind heart to the people who have been affected,” explained Sanga.
And in his remarks, Leonard Njikho, Member of Parliament for Mzuzu City Constituency said the donation is timely as it will ease the plight of the affected families.
“President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is the caring person and the help which he has rendered to these people will make their lives move normally,” said Njikho.
Meanwhile, one of the people whose property was damaged, Maureen Gondwe thanked the DPP Government for immediately coming to their rescue.
“I thank the Government for showing that it really cares about us. When our houses were destroyed our MP, Leonard Njikho visited and helped us to fix the roofs. Today they are also here with cash donation,” applauded Gondwe.
During the disaster, which left trees falling on roofs of some houses and electricity facilities brought down, no life was lost.
