Confirming the development, Member of Parliament (MP) for Karonga Central Constituency, Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo, also added that the party’s Secretary General Christopher Litchi was also whipped as he was trying to rescue Kamoto from the assailants.

According to Mwenefumbo, the incident happened in full view of the party’s president Enoch Chihana.

“As we were seated, Kamoto was asked to go out. While there unknown thugs descended on him and beat him up badly. They went ahead to beat up Secretary General Litchi. The party’s president, who was there has not even condemned the incident,” said Mwenifumbo.

The incident has since been reported to Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe.

This has come barely a week after Mwenifumbo declared his interest to wrestle Chihana on the party’s presidency.

AFORD is scheduled to hold a leadership-elective convention on December 16 at a venue to be identified.
