Rays of hope for Lirangwe-Chingale-Machinga Road: RA Invites bids

Primary beneficiaries of the much talked-about Lirangwe-Chingale-Machinga Road can begin to smile as the Roads Authority (RA) is now inviting sealed bids for the upgrading of the road to Bitumen Standard.

In a statement MBC Online has seen,  Malawi Government has budgeted public funds for the procurement  of various works in the 2017-2018 financial year and the RA intends to apply part of the funds to cover eligible payments for the upgrading of the road.


And according to Chairperson for the Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Public Infrastructure Victor Mbewe, Government has so far committed K14 billion for the road project. The Kuwait Fund has also pumped in K10 billion.


It is hoped that once the 62-kilometer road is constructed, it will improve the social and economic life of communities in Zomba, Machinga and Blantyre districts.
