Gwengwe, a running-mate to former president Joyce Banda during the 2014 Tripartite Elections, has since expressed interest to contest in the Lilongwe Msozi North By-elections on MCP ticket.

Gwengwe won in Dedza Central in 2009 on MCP ticket before he joined DPP. He failed to retain the constituency in 2014 when he contested on PP ticket.

Malawi Electoral Commission is yet to announce the date for the By-elections in Lilongwe Msozi North, which fell vacant following the death of its Member of Parliament Highton Jiya, in January this year.

Jiya, who died at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre, was elected the constituency’s MP in 2014 Tripartite Elections.
