Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has officially launched the Luwinga Technical Centre with the opening of a football academy for young boys and girls.
Speaking during the launch, FAM president Fleetwood Haiya highlighted that the facility has the potential to propel Malawi into future World Cup tournaments.
“This academy is going to foster our talent export strategy. The players that Malawi will be producing will be able to play professional football in Europe and other countries,” said Haiya.
FAM Second Vice President, Lameck Zetu Khonje, hailed Haiya for living up to his dream of fulfilling the opening of Luwinga Technical Centre, one year after he was elected FAM President.
The facility has two football pitches, hostels and football offices. It accommodates over 40 football players.
