The Ministry of Trade and Industry says government is set to establish a national single window for trade licensing to cut out cumbersome processes traders go through to get trading certificates, licences and permits .
Director of Trade in the ministry, Charity Musonzo, was briefing journalists on progress so far on the establishment of the single window. The national single window is being set up with assistance from the World Bank funded Southern African Trade and Connectivity Project.
She said it is now being estimated that the window can be operational around August since consultants have already completed software development.Musonzo further said procurement of hardware for the electronic window has for sometime been a challenge, but have now opted to work with the Data Centre and other stakeholders like ESCOM to roll out the single window as they resolve the challenge.
According to Musonzo, once up and running, the single window will cut licensing costs, reduce time wasted commuting to various agencies and generally facilitate trade.
