Form One girl nabbed for stabbing her boyfriend

Police in Chitipa District are keeping in custody a Form One student at Natu Private Secondary School, Eunice Phiri,18, for allegedly stabbing to death a fellow student, 21-year-old France Mwalwanda who was in Form Two.

Deputy Public Relations for Chitipa Police Station, Bright Mfune, has told MBC Digital that the incident occurred on 12 May 2024 at Illema Trading Centre in the district.

The two were reportedly dating and had left the school premises for Illema Trading Centre to withdraw money from a mobile money agent and thereafter went on a drinking spree. Disagreements arose when the boy asked the girl to return to school.

Mfune further said Mwalwanda was the first to grab a knife from a meat shop to scare his girlfriend into returning to the school campus.

The two started tussling for the knife and the girl snatched the knife and stabbed him at the back.

Well wishers rushed him to Chitipa District Hospital where he died while receiving treatment due to severe bleeding.

Mwalwanda hailed from Mwenelupembe Village in the area of Paramount Chief Kyungu in Karonga District while Phiri comes from Chimwala Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chimwala in Mangochi District.
