Football for Crime Prevention

In a bid to foster a safer environment at Lumbadzi in Lilongwe, the local police service has joined forces with entrepreneur Raphael Mataka in organising a football tournament aimed at promoting positive youth development and driving social change.

Francis Kakhobwe, Child Protection Officer for the Police, emphasised the significance of the initiative, especially when it comes to reporting suspected criminal behaviour.

Kakhobwe also stressed the value of seeking guidance and counselling services which are available through the Police victim Support Unit.

Mataka expressed optimism regarding the tournament’s potential to reduce violence and deter youth involvement in substance abuse.

The launch of the tournament took place at Chinkhuti Primary School Ground, drawing participation from 24 teams representing surrounding areas.
