Fishermen urged to paint and register boats for safety

Fishermen in the country have been urged to mark and register their boats for easy identification during accidents and theft.

District Fisheries Officer for Karonga, Patrick Moyo made the call during a sensitisation meeting on the importance of boat marking and registration at Kambwe Beach in Karonga.

“Boat marking and registration exercise is important to fishermen in the country to avert some of the challenges that they encounter when fishing such as accidents, theft, missing or drowning,” Moyo said.

During the sensitisation meeting, Paramount Chief Kyungu for Karonga and Chitipa districts appealed to Karonga District Council to provide hygiene facilities in all beach sites in the district before revenue collection.
