An Indian-based organisation Human Achievers Foundation has honoured First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera for the work she is doing to promote the lives of vulnerable women and girls in the country.
Founder and Chairperson for the foundation, Dr Senorita Isaac, said her organization is impressed with the work that Madam Chakwera is doing through her initiative, Shaping Our Future Foundation.
“We are excited about what you are doing and this award is an encouragement for you to continue with your work, ” said Dr Isaac.
Speaking when she met Malawian delegates at the 10th Merck Foundation Africa-Asia Luminary currently taking place in Mumbai, India, Madam Chakwera said educating the girl child remains key among her priorities at the foundation.
“We are supporting over 2000 children in government and grant-aided secondary schools as well as Community Day Secondary Schools. It breaks my heart to see the girl-child failing to continue education because of issues like school fees,” said Madam Chakwera.
She asked Malawians to join hands with her to support girl-child education adding that if many Malawians decide to offer support to children in their communities the impact of the challenges would be reduced.
One of the delegates, Dr Judith Mkwaila of Mzuzu Central Hospital, hailed Madam Chakwera’s efforts saying it is making a big difference in the lives of vulnerable girls and women in the country.
