The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Referees Standing Committee has selected 120 referees to oversee games throughout the 2024 Football Season.

Among them are 17 FIFA-approved referees alongside 103 local referees. These appointments were finalised during FAM’s meeting in Salima last Saturday.

Fredrick Kholopa, FAM’s Referees Development Officer, emphasized that the selection process was based on referees’ performances in 2023, taking into account both their physical and technical capabilities.

Khalopa said assessors have been assigned to all elite competitions to evaluate referees’ performance, with quarterly fitness tests ensuring their physical readiness for the demanding 90-minute matches.

The appointed referees comprise 45 referees (42 male and 4 female) and 75 assistant referees (56 male and 19 female), with 26 new referees elevated from lower leagues.
