One of the country’s financial experts, Partha Dutta, has said sufficient financing is key to commercialising the agricultural sector and subsequently, the growth of the economy.
Dutta said commercial agriculture contributes to the resilience and growth of the country’s economy.
“Commodity trade finance supports agricultural production and trade, thereby sustaining rural livelihoods and contributing to poverty reduction efforts,” Dutta said.
Commercial agriculture in Malawi is exposed to various risks, including weather-related shocks and market fluctuations.
Malawi has an agro-based economy, where agriculture contributes 60 percent to the country’s GDP.
