ESCOM for affirmative action

A day long women’s conference for female employees of the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) is underway at ESCOM Training centre in Blantyre.

This is part of International Women’s Day celebrations for women working with the institution.

Chief Operations Officer for ESCOM, Maxwell Mulimakwenda, has urged the women to avoid taking a ‘business as usual’ approach as this derails personal and professional growth.

Mulimakwenda has also revealed that Escom has taken a 50-50 affirmative action to recruit and promote more women, on merit, so that they have a proper representation of women in all departments.

Attending the conference are women from Blantyre and Lilongwe power houses, with facilitators from within and outside Escom.
